Challenging gender stereotypes in the construction industry

MC Labour is proud to be making history after the inaugural AFL Women’s Match on Friday 3rd of February at Ikon Park.

It was important for MC Labour to align its ideals on gender equality with the Carlton Football Club’s women’s program in order to challenge gender stereotypes in the construction industry.

Only 4.9% of full time employees in the construction industry are women. Men comprised more than 60% of the full-time workforce in six industries: Construction; Mining; Electricity, Gas, Water and Waste Services; Transport, Postal and Warehousing; Manufacturing; and Wholesale Trade.

MC Labour is active in its approach to provide equal opportunities to both male and female construction workers through various awards and EBA’s that ensure equal pay and leave entitlements to both genders. The MC group employs women its building, rail and civil construction, traffic management and security arms of the business.

Both men and women employed by MC Labour are offered industry related training and seminars to have their skills recognised with formal qualifications in carpentry, concreting, landscaping, cabinetmaking, plastering and building and construction.

“We feel privileged in having the opportunity to encourage diversity and empower women through the supporting women in sport through this sponsorship. This will create strong and tough role models for women to aspire to. We hope that this empowerment transfers over to young women looking to work in the construction industry” says Marc Lunedei, Founder and Director, MC Labour

We look forward another exhilarating match at the AFLW double header Carlton V Greater Western Sydney followed by Collingwood V Melbourne clash this Saturday 11th February at Ikon Park.
